Renting a DIY garage bay for the first time

A self-service bay is a place to do your own work with better gear than a driveway: a lift, air, power, light and a roof. Here is how the first visit goes.

Before you book

  • Know the job and how long it takes. Add a cushion: the minimum booking is two hours, and extra time is cheaper than overtime.
  • Order your parts and fluids first. Do not spend your hours waiting on a delivery.
  • Look up your car's lift points and torque specs.
  • Pick the bay by the job. Our guide to choosing a lift helps.

What you bring

  • Your car, a photo ID and closed-toe shoes.
  • Your own hand tools.
  • Parts, fluids and a way to carry away old parts and tires.

What is included

  • The lift in the lift bays, jack stands and work lights.
  • A compressor with air hoses, and power at the bay.
  • A restroom, and heat in cold weather.

When you arrive

Show your photo ID. If you are new to lifts, staff give you a short safety walkthrough before you use one. Anyone helping you in the work area signs a short form first; friends who just want to wait stay in the customer area.

While you work

  • Support the car on stands or the lift locks before you go under it. A jack alone is never enough.
  • Eye protection every time. No welding, grinding, painting or body-filler work.
  • Ask first before pulling an engine or transmission.

Cleaning up and fees

Fluids go in the marked containers. Sweep, put your tools away, and take your old parts with you. Clean bays cost nothing extra. Fees apply only if you leave a mess, dispose of things here, run past your time or leave a car on site without a pass.

Changing your mind

Cancel 24 hours or more ahead (48 for day and weekend rentals) for a full refund. Inside that window, one hour of bay time is kept.
